The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a risk at the current time, so you might imagine that there would be little appetite for going to Zimbabwe's casinos. In reality, it appears to be working the other way around, with the crucial economic circumstances creating a greater ambition to gamble, to try and locate a quick win, a way out of the situation.

For many of the people living on the meager local earnings, there are two established types of wagering, the state lotto and Zimbet. Just as with practically everywhere else in the world, there is a national lottery where the chances of profiting are extremely low, but then the winnings are also unbelievably large. It's been said by economists who study the subject that the majority do not purchase a card with a real assumption of profiting. Zimbet is founded on either the national or the United Kingston soccer divisions and involves predicting the outcomes of future matches.

Zimbabwe's casinos, on the other shoe, pander to the very rich of the nation and travelers. Up until a short time ago, there was a very big vacationing business, based on safaris and trips to Victoria Falls. The economic anxiety and associated bloodshed have carved into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe's casinos, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and one armed bandits, and the Plumtree Casino, which has only slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just slots. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which have table games, slots and video machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the two of which have gaming machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe's casinos and the aforementioned mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is considerably like a pools system), there is a total of two horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the market has contracted by more than 40% in the past few years and with the associated poverty and violence that has resulted, it isn't understood how healthy the vacationing industry which is the backbone of Zimbabwe's gambling halls will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will carry on till conditions get better is merely not known.
