Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
